Cheering the Wrong

"Wrong does not cease to be wrong because the majority share in it." - Leo Tolstoy

Just because a bunch of people think something is right doesn't mean it is.

God loves geeks too!
Why Jesus?

A shocking and illegal act
One day, when I was sitting in the car while my wife was in the grocery store, I was watching the traffic go by on the nearby freeway. I liked to watch the different kinds of vehicles and observe any trends (yeah, I'm a nerd). Suddenly, there was the sound of a revving motorcycle and the sound of a police siren.

I watched in shock and horror as a motorcylist, trying to evade the police, got onto the freeway then cut across all lanes of traffic, went over the center divider (which didn't have a fence or barricade at the time) then went onto the opposite side of the freeway and took off at high speed to get away from the police.

As this was happening, two young women were loading groceries into their car nearby. When they noticed the motorcylist doing this very illegal and dangerous stunt, they started cheering, jumping up and down and literally celebrating a criminal act!

I thought to myself "Why on earth are these women celebrating such an illegal thing?". In our area, the police and sheriff officers are typically very level-headed, so I can't imagine an officer was chasing someone on a motorcycle just because they were bored -- this motorcyclist obviously was already in trouble with the law and didn't want to get caught. They could have been killed and also could have caused accidents and injuries because of their actions. This was not a good thing that happened -- definitely not the kind of thing to celebrate!

Celebrating the wrong things
It unfortunately has become too common these days to cheer and celebrate the wrong things. Each day babies are slaughtered by abortion. Protestors across the country protest the actual legal enforcement of the law. People dress up in terrorist garb and wave terrorist flags and loudly (and sometimes violently) support a terrorist group that has burned and murdered children in their beds, raped innocent women and have broken into homes and slaughtered whole families. Truly this world is upside-down.

How can anyone not blinded by demonic deceit see these things as good or right? For decades, our laws and civil expectations were dictated by what God considers right in wrong by way of the Bible, but now 'progressive' people are trying to change all of that, in the name of equity and inclusion. Let me tell you, 'equity' and 'inclusion' are not going to save your life, only God can do that!

While I doubt any 'progressive' people would be reading this blog, if they were, I have to ask: How would you feel if someone broke down your door, raped your family members, brutally murdered your children or siblings and then burned your house down?. Would you be okay with that? What if someone who was in your country illegally senselessly murdered your family member or dear friend, then walked away like it was no big deal. Would that be fine with you? What if you were driving your car, stopped at a red light and someone carjacked you while your one-year-old baby was sitting in the back seat? Would you feel bad for the carjacker as they drove away with your car and your child (or grandchild, niece, nephew) thinking "Aww, it's fine, he was probably oppressed his whole life and this is the result". No, more than likely, you'd be on the phone with the police to call for immediate help!

You're living in 'upside-down world'!
My point is, you who celebrate wrong things should instead be protesting them! If someone does something wrong to another, no matter what the 'narrative' says, it's wrong. We shouldn't support and celebrate people who do wrong things. But what is 'wrong' to you? If you don't follow the standard that has been set forth centuries ago, you are most likely okay with you or others doing wrong things, and you may feel totally fine about it!

God gave us very clear directions in the Bible for what is right, and what is wrong. The Ten Commandments are pretty clear. Many of the laws God gave to Moses are great examples of what is wrong and right. Jesus Christ also taught us what is wrong and what is right. These are all powerful examples, a good and fair standard to conform to. And no, conforming to the right and proper standard isn't you 'selling out' or being a 'weak'. It means you want to live right and also treat others correctly. What's wrong with that?

God is not a neglectful parent
If a parent had a child, and let them do whatever they want so they looked like a 'fun' or 'cool' parent to this child, the parent would actually being negligent! Would it be okay to let a toddler or young child play with razor blades or matches? Would letting your young child play in the middle of a busy street be 'fun' or 'cool'?

In the Bible, God gave us commandments and laws because he loves us. Sure, he wants us to love, obey and respect him, but he also wants mankind to thrive and treat each other properly. So what does any loving parent do? They set boundries and rules for their kids. "Don't put a fork in the electrical outlet Johnny!" "Don't play with that bottle of bleach Kaneesha!" "Don't touch that hot stove Bobby!" These are all prime examples of why boundries and rules are important. If there are no boundries and no rules, Johnny would be electrocuted, Kaneesha would be poisoned and Bobby would get burned. God doesn't want us to be burned, killed or maimed, nor does he want us to hurt others. God's laws and rules are good! They aren't 'old-fashioned' or 'outdated'.

What is the cause of all of this?

For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. - Ephesians 6:12 - NLT

Compared to God, we are weak and inclined to sin. Because of good ol' Adam and Eve we live in a fallen world, although a world that God created as good. The devil, who definitely is real, tries very hard to corrupt everything God does. The devil loves trying to corrupt people and governments and loves twisting God's laws. Behind nearly every bad action or thought is the devil and his demons. The devil is seething in anger that he got thrown out of Heaven, so he is doing everything he can to mess up God's creation.

When people aren't in a right relationship with the living God, they are very susceptible to influence from demons. This can result in these people believing wrong things, fighting for the wrong causes and withdrawing compassion when its needed the most.

I used to be a clueless knucklehead*
When I was a young adult, I was absolutely clueless about many things. I was influenced by a lot of folks in my work and personal life, and most of them were not a good influence. Because of a stupid vow I made to myself in my late teens, I was determined to never be assertive, didn't want to stand up for myself (or what I knew to be right from childhood Bible study) and eventually yearned to commit every kind of icky behavior I could. I was a total mess. I did shameful and yucky things that make me blush and shudder now. Basically, I had turned into a raging knucklehead because I was doing my best to run away from God due to the lies I believed about him.
* I still am a knucklehead, but not as clueless and I'm now God's knucklehead!

While I was never an activist and never attended any protests, I had wrong thinking about things; like God, authority and how to treat others. I thought it was cool to make fun of others, especially those who were successful, those who were different than me and those who had conservative views. I allowed close personal relationships to determine my values instead of having my own values. What little love and concern I had for others faded away as I tried to become what everyone else wanted me to be. Add undiagnosed autism to the mix and you have a complete bumblehead trying to please everyone except God. It wasn't until my brother-in-law was shot and killed that I began to seek God and slowly started growing into a person who cared about others, who wanted to show his kids that he loved them and that life is precious and fleeting.

The fix: Draw close to God
I don't know your situation, but I appeal to you -- grow close to God. If you haven't already, look over your life, make a stand, give your heart to Jesus Christ and go all-in on learning about, giving glory to and living to please God. You wouldn't be doing this so you can be 'better than everyone else'. No. Most Christians will admit that they are followers of Jesus Christ because they are wretches and flawed. I certainly am those things, but thankfully God sees the blood of Jesus on me, not my flaws. If you truly give yourself to God, you will change and celebrating wrong things will be as repugnant and frustrating to you as it is for all true believers in Jesus Christ.

About me
First and foremost I'm a follower of Jesus Christ. After that, I'm a blessed husband, father and grandfather. I do remote computer work for a living although it's mostly part-time. I'm an amateur radio operator - AF7EC. When I'm not working on the endless list of house and car projects, I like to tinker with electronics, like to listen to shortwave radio and write software (mostly open-source) in C, C++ and Python. I usually bounce around between macOS, Linux and Windows for support and development work. Overall, I am a big nobody, but always willing to share about Jesus and all that God has done for me and my family.
