Yesterday was the mid-term elections in the U.S. and the results are very discouraging. While I'm not really a political person, I have an interest in how my city, county, state and federal governments are run and how that affects law-abiding citizens.
I'm NOT a 'Trumper'
While I am a Christian and a conservative, I am not a 'Trumper' nor could you say that
I'm 'MAGA'. When I vote, I vote as biblically as possible. I am not voting for the person on the ballot
so much as I'm voting for how that person (or their administration) will enact or support policies that
affect Christians and conservatives as well as the general well-being of the city, county, state and country.
Unfortunately some on the political left associate Christians and conservatives with Donald Trump. That's unfortunate because it's often inaccurate. Most Christians and conservatives just want a government that doesn't discriminate against them and doesn't force unconstitutional things on them. While Trump's administration has given Christians and conservatives a much needed respite from persecution, Trump has made many folks angry and has made many missteps that have cost the country a great deal. Keeping Iran from having a nuclear weapon? Good idea -- take an elite team in and do the thing. Have a long protracted war? Not a good idea. Enacting punishing tariffs on the whole world? Not the greatest idea. Enacting tariffs on adversarial countries? Okay, I guess, if done right.
While I personally am displeased with a lot of what the Trump administration is doing, you have to look at the 'net effect' of your city, county, state and federal government. Does the current government throw elderly Christian grandmothers in prison for praying in front of abortion clinics? Do they force teen girls to share locker rooms with confused boys who think they are girls? Do they harass conservatives and Christians, tasking the FBI to tail people attending church? Do they fly transgender flags at the White House and allow transvestites to giggle their body parts in front of children on the White House lawn? All of these things were actually done by left-leaning county, state and federal governments! Your government should worry about governing all people equally, instead of favoring a vocal (and often deviant) minority.
'Who are you to say what's right and wrong?'
I am obviously (and thankfully) not God, but I know him and I'm in a relationship with him through Christ
Jesus. I study his word every day. While I am the least perfect person in existence and probably make way
more mistakes than anyone else on this planet, I have a pretty good understanding of what God considers
right and wrong. Unfortunately many have abandoned the standard that God has provided for us. While
they may know, deep down in their heart, that God exists, they spurn his love and ignore his commands.
They rage against him and anything that has to do with him. Because they've been hurt by someone else or
the world in general, they blame God for their pain instead of addressing it properly. Think I'm judging?
No, I'm describing my past self as well as many other people.
Back to the topic at-hand... When government discriminates against people, for whatever reason, it's wrong. Your government should represent and govern you with fairness, unless you've willingly broken the law, then you rightly deserve punishment. But for law-abiding citizens, regardless of their race, background, religious or political views, you should not fear that your government will clobber you because you love Jesus, because you are pro-life or that you don't want your children mutilated against your will because they may be going through a period of confusion or depression. Unfortunately, yesterday the majority of U.S., state, county and city citizens of voted for decline, conflict and persecution instead of progress, peace and security.
Deadly and destructive experiments
Unfortunately Socialism and Communism are trying to take root in our country. People who don't understand
the full extent of these radical ideologies get excited about the 'benefits' their adherents constantly
drone on about. 'Distribution of wealth', having the state take over production, and so-on may sound good
to some people, but it's already been tried many times before -- always with deadly and destructive results.
Unfortunately there are many people in our country who came from places in the world where destructive thinking
is the norm, so when they hear about the devil they know, they unfortunately support and vote for it.
'Reproductive rights'
This is the dumbest label people have affixed to the killing
of unborn babies! Killing the innocent is completely wrong. 'You must not murder' is not super vague. God is literally telling us not
to murder one another, and that includes children inside the womb. A child's body is not its mother's body,
so it's not a choice. A woman deciding to get plastic surgery or wear a green shirt is a 'choice' -- killing
an unborn child within her is not! And for those cases where natural child-birth may be
detrimental to the mother and / or baby, c-sections can be performed instead. Sadly, for some, unborn babies
are considered an 'inconvenience' and are disposed of like a pair of old socks. This is an abomination to
God.
'LGBQT+ rights'
Unfortunately there are many in this world who are deceived by the devil and his demons. Thoughts of 'I
was born in the wrong body' or 'I'd be happier as the opposite sex' are very much thoughts planted by demonic
influence. The enemy of our souls is constantly whispering lies to us, every moment of every day. If you
don't have a strong foundation of Christ Jesus in your life, if you are a Christian but are weak,
if you are rebelling against God or Christians because of some trauma or pain experienced in life, you will
fall for the lies and allow those evil thoughts to take root in your mind, and before you know it, you're
living your life based on a lie.
As far as I know, there aren't roving gangs of federal or state law enforcement rounding up people who identify as LGBQT+. I don't see grocery stores kicking these people out the moment they step inside. I have not heard of these folks being denied government benefits because of how they identify. So what rights are these people being deprived of? If anything, governments, medical facilities and corporations are going out of their way to cater to LGBQT+-identifying people! So really, I'm not seeing how their rights are being violated or taken away.
What I do see is LGBQT+ ideologies being exposed and discussed by those who follow God's standard. Do Christians hate people who identify as this? Absolutely NOT! Are we concerned about their well-being and the ultimate destination of their souls? Definitely! Unfortunately people who identify like this (and the people who advocate for and enable this destructive ideology) say that shining the truth on this is being 'hateful' and using 'hate speech'. Come on -- you should know better!
When people are doing something wrong, they hate being exposed or 'found out', so they often lash out, they cut off loved ones and even resort to violence. How many trans-identifying people have carried out violence including mass shootings in recent years? An ideology that moves people to threaten violence or actually murder innocents is evil and demonic, so those of us who actually care about others (including those who identify as LGBQT+) are interested in stopping the lies, stopping the violence and exposing the truth about these ideologies. All we want is for deceived people to get the help they need, and help them see (and live) the real truth.
'Affordability'
This is a gripe that nearly everyone has about the current situation. I can't blame anyone for complaining
about $5.00+ per gallon of gas ($7.00+ for diesel!). Don't forget that the affordability crisis did not
start with the current administration, but the previous one. While the Trump administration said they'd
get prices down and people could live more comfortably, that largely hasn't happened. I totally get why
people would vote with their wallets on this issue. Paying exorbitant prices for meat, milk and eggs
stinks -- a lot!
When emotion overrides good sense
Many of the issues people care about have influenced their voting decisions. It's easy to get riled up about
the topics I've covered here. It's easy to vote with your emotions instead of taking a moment to think about
what the future will look like if one party or the other wins. Unfortunately, the Democrat party has not
been shy about what they plan to do once they are back in power -- and for those with level heads and an
interest in fair treatment of all law-abiding U.S. citizens and the general well-being of the country,
it doesn't look good. And no, there is no place on Earth where Christians and conservatives can flee to
so they can escape persecution. It's up to clear-thinking, faithful and God-fearing people to pray, stand
their ground, push for positive change and take up their cross daily. Otherwise, we will see the continued
decline of the only country on Earth that has historically protected nearly all of its law-abiding
citizens!
God bless you, and thank you for reading! 😀
About me
First and foremost I'm a follower of Jesus Christ. After that, I'm a blessed husband, father and
grandfather. I do remote computer work for a living although it's mostly part-time. I'm an amateur
radio operator - AF7EC. When I'm not working on the endless list of house and car projects, I like to
tinker with electronics, like to listen to shortwave radio and write software (mostly open-source) in
C, C++ and Python. I usually bounce around between macOS, Linux and Windows for support and
development work. Overall, I am a big nobody, but always willing to share about Jesus and all that
God has done for me and my family.
